Teen Room Activities

The Teen Room is located downstairs, to the right of the main stairwell. It features our Young Adult Fiction books and Teen and Adult Board Games.

The room is fully decked out with a study space, hangout area, and Makerspace. Our study desk has pens, pencils, coasters, sticky notes, scissors, a desk lamp, charging ports and outlets to help teens work. We also have a couch and beanbag with floor space for just hanging out, and plenty of games and activities to keep even the most bored people occupied.

Makerspace

Our Makerspace is located in the back corner of the room. We have available plenty of crafting and creative writing instruction books, sketch books, colored pencils, markers, scissors, jewelry making supplies, ribbon, embroidery thread, fabric, and odds & ends. A yarn station is set up for avid knitters and crocheters, and even more fabric is available in bins stored clearly under the bookshelves. We also have a magnetic poetry wall, and a clothesline to display all the great art that gets left behind!

Private Study Space

Off the Teen Room is a private, quiet study space that can be used on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those who need it for a planned study or work session should reserve it using our Meeting Space Reservation Form 2025

Teen Collections

The Teen Room houses our Young Adult Fiction collection, including all new titles. The collection is shelved on custom-built wooden shelving that matches the woodwork of the original house. Did you know the Teen Room was originally the dining room when our library was a house? The new books are shelved in the China cabinet!

A huge number of board games for teens and adults are also kept on the island shelving unit in the Teen Room. These games can be played in-house or checked out and taken home for a 7-day borrowing period. For more information on our board games, see here.

We also have 2 cool teen magazines available for checkout – “Make:” and “How It Works.”

We have hundreds of Graphic Novels and 2 full shelves of Young Adult Nonfiction; both collections are shelved in an aisle beside the Adult Nonfiction collection.

Teen Advisory Board

Teens ages 12-18 looking to volunteer should join the Teen Advisory Board! We meet to plan teen programs, library fundraisers, and offer input into library collections! For information on how to join, see here.

Puzzles & Activities

The Reference Area next to the main Circulation Desk hosts multiple passive programs for adults of all ages.

A new jigsaw puzzle is available every month for anyone to build on. In addition, anyone can take a puzzle from our new Puzzle Swap if they bring an old puzzle in!

Adult coloring books and sheets are available for calm coloring inside the library.

A Magazine Swap is available near the front door. Anyone is welcome to drop off their old magazines for others to enjoy. Feel free to take as many free magazines from the sway as you like.

Anyone with questions about adult programming at MLNV should contact [email protected].

Plant Swap

Located on the Reference Area windowsill, our ongoing Houseplant Swap invites patrons to bring in any houseplants, cuttings, pots, or plant care items that they no longer need. Likewise, anyone is welcome to take any items from the plant swap that they like.

Please contact [email protected] with any questions regarding the plant swap or other adult programming.
